- Installing WordPress by using a MySQL database in your web hosting environment.
You’re super excited about getting your new home based business off the ground. If you plan to unlock cell phones as a business, then this is one of the many important steps in getting you on your way.
WordPress is a widely used content management system that has opened the door for many to enter into their own online business, showcasing their talents or just experimenting with technology.
How to Install WordPress in cPanel
Step 1: Download the latest version of WordPress
Download WordPress from here: https://wordpress.org/download/
Note: For this tutorial, we’re using the .zip file. While it’s perfectly fine to use the .tar.gz, we won’t cover that here.
Remember where you downloaded the .zip file. It needs to be uploaded to your web hosting server.
Step 2: Upload WordPress using the File Manager in cPanel
When logged into cPanel, click on the “Home” icon in the top right corner.
Click “File Manager” under the “FILES” section. A new tab will open, displaying files and folders.
Click on the folder in the left pane which will contain files for your website (e.g. /home/demo6/public_html/).
Substitute demo6 with the actual location on your server.
Click “Upload” in the top menu. Another tab will open. (“Select the file you want to upload to “/home/demo6/public_html/”.)
To now install WordPress in cPanel, click “Select File” to navigate to the WordPress installation .zip file that you downloaded earlier.
Wait for the upload to finish. You will know this when the following “complete” message appears:
Click “Go Back to …” at the bottom of the screen to navigate back to the folder to see the actual .zip file.
Select the .zip file and click on “Extract” found in the top menu.
Note: All of the .zip file contents have been placed inside of a folder named “wordpress”. However, these files need to be moved to the root or main folder of your website.
Step 3: Extract and Move the WordPress Installation Files
Important: Expand the folders in the left pane and click the “wordpress” folder to reveal all of its contents. As a result, the contents will appear in the right side of the window.
Click “Select All” checkbox that appears directly above. Checking this box selects all files.
Click “Move” in the top menu. A small pop up “Move” window will appear.
Remove everything to the right of the “forward” slash, including the slash so that you change it from:
/public_html/wordpress
to this: /public_html
Click “Move File(s)” to complete the action. This results in moving all of the selected files into the root folder of your website.
Install WordPress in your Web Hosting Environment
Since you may want to keep this window active, open another browser tab and type the domain name of your website in the address bar to begin the WordPress installation.
Click all the WordPress installation prompts. However, pause when you arrive at the screen that requires you to input the Database Name, Username, Password, Database Host, and Table Prefix.
Enter the the Database Name, Username, and Password values that you created from the “How to Create a MySQL database” section above.
Note: Do not change the default value “localhost” that appears after “Database Host”, since this may cause errors during the installation. The “Table Prefix” value can be whatever you like.
Click “Submit”.
Click “Run the Installation”.
If everything went well, you should finally be presented with the WordPress “Welcome” screen. Here you will enter all of the information related to your newly created mobile phone unlocking website.
However, if there were errors or any unexpected screens, please let us know about them in the comment section below.
Closely follow the on-screen instructions to fill in the appropriate information for your WordPress website.
Click “Install WordPress”.
As a result, you will see the “Success!” screen displaying your chosen WordPress website admin username.
Click “Log In” to enter your website to further customize it.
From here, you can update WordPress to the latest version, install themes, plugins, etc.
Hover over the “Home” icon in the upper left corner to reveal “Visit Site”.
