LATEST UPDATE: Orders now being accepted here: AT&T iPhone Unlock
A few interesting things happened this week:
- The stockunlocks Drupal module for the Dhru Fusion GSM API client is pretty much done.
- We experienced a slight peak in sales.
- We also experienced our highest peak ever: The most AT&T iPhone unlocking orders refunded!
Obviously, we’re not so proud of that last item.
Here’s how it went down:
On October 3rd we noticed quite a few of our AT&T iPhone unlocking orders piling up with our suppliers. It didn’t matter if they were “economy” 1-24 hour orders or “instant” 2-60 minute orders. NOTHING was going through. So started the e-mail blasts, reassuring customers that we would keep them posted as we found out what was going on.
Our first clue that this was not going to turn out well was when one of the largest, most reliable, direct sources for AT&T unlocking removed their $1.99 iPhone unlocks and replaced it with their premium instant service … then the premium instant went away. The beginnings of an AT&T iPhone unlock shutdown.
The Bad News: AT&T Suspends iPhone Unlocking
Not too long before that, we received this communication:
First … we wanted to say we are very sorry to disappoint you guys with your orders. We are sorry for delays in order return time and responses. You can imagine we are overwhelmed with emails since everyone keeps emailing us every minute.
RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO STABLE SERVICE TO UNLOCK ATT IPHONES (EVEN THE SAME DAY SERVICE IS BACKED UP RIGHT NOW).
SORRY AGAIN FOR ALL TROUBLES. WE HAVE CANCELLED MOST OF THE ORDERS JUST NOW FOR THE SUPER DELAYED ORDERS. TILL FURTHER NOTICE PLEASE WAIT FOR SERVICES TO BE STABLE BEFORE TAKING NEW ORDERS FROM YOUR CUSTOMERS. THIS IS A GLOBAL ISSUE, NO ONE IS ABLE TO PROCESS THESE DUE TO ATT BEING STRICTER ON ELIGIBILITY NOW.
If you’re in the unlocking business or recently had your order to unlock your AT&T iPhone rejected and refunded, you are just as confused, frustrated, and disappointed as we are right now.
It’s true that we unlock other brands with other carriers. But it was the ability to unlock the AT&T iPhone that inspired the very existence of the StockUnlocks website.
Where do we go from here?
First, we wait and see what the final decision will be regarding AT&T and the iPhone. One thing is for sure: When the dust settles, and if it’s ever allowed again, it might be a little while before we see $2 unlocks for AT&T iPhones. Let’s hope not.
If you haven’t heard, there are some companies claiming the following, despite a supposed ATT iPhone unlock shutdown:
NEW ORDERS can be submitted USING NEW Service ” AT&T – iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 5C ( INSTANT 1 – 30 min ) * TESTING * at a cost $xx “!! (We have been testing and so far it is working!)
Really? That is a huge contrast to what we were told by one of our most trusted suppliers:
IF there are “COMPANIES” that promote it working, good luck on getting your money back. We were the direct suppliers for AT&T Services & There is new policies to abide making it almost impossible to unlock phones with AT&T.
Whom can you trust?
We hold accounts with most of the well known “direct sources” out there. Here’s what we’re going to do:
- Randomly select one our refunded customer’s IMEI (with their permission) and try these “new” services, one by one. We’ll pay for it.
- If any of these suppliers can succesfully unlock an AT&T iPhone, we’ll let you know all of the details here.
More and more suppliers are dropping the AT&T iPhone unlocking service. It seems to be related to the great difficulty in processing bulk orders. We are trying to get to the bottom of it. Read the following posts regarding the situation:

What can you expect from us?
If AT&T totally pulls the plug on the iPhone unlocking, shutting it down forever, we will continue to offer other services, of course. However, you may start to see a slight shift in the focus of this website from an unlocking service provider to maybe focusing more on informing you about the unlocking scene out there.
We may also spend more time supporting our new Drupal module. And then there’s always that app idea we’ve been dying to get to …
Whatever the case, we all hope that things can get back to “normal” soon, that this AT&T iPhone unlocking suspension is only temporary.
Looking forward to keeping you “in the loop”!
